 Update 5th September

BOTOM POND IMPROVEMENT                    (Sept 2017)

Committee members have been working with both Welsh Water & NRW (National Resources Wales) with the aim of finding a solution to the deteriorating fly hatches etc we’ve experienced over recent seasons.

Waters samples have been analysed by Welsh Water scientists and although not perfect, have not indicated any abnormalities that would drastically impact it’s aquatic fly life.

The Technical Fisheries Officer for NRW has concluded that the recent population explosion of Perch is the most likely reason, especially as they are extremely efficient at bottom feeding on invertebrates etc before they become available to Trout.

Samples of the stunted Perch have recently passed a mandatory “health check” this allows them to be transferred to another fishery, hence NRW & NRFFA will shortly undertake an initial netting operation to determine the most effective method to reduce the population.
